The "Special" Train

2004_12_vintagesubwayeug.jpg

Eugene Hernandez got to ride on one of the vintage trains running along the N/R between 57th Street and Whitehall Station. He writes, "People seemed to take it in stride, some seemed really confused, others were taking photos and reading the old advertisements..." He also has some great photographs, like the one above.

The MTA has the vintage trains running this weekend and next weekend. More information here.

they are still doing this. in fact, over the past few months, there have been several unannounced visits of such trains in stations (primarily grand central).

and check out some seriously cool pictures of "special trains" and other trains at http://www.railfanwindow.com -- i am the proud fiance of the webmaster. :)

This is very cool. I hope it will still run this weekend. Would be fun to check it out.

are you sure they're still doing this? the posters have been removed from the stations (or at least from the 7th ave station on the F) and the page of events on the mta web site no longer lists it.

From the picture, these vintage trains sure look better than what we ahve now with the 7, W, and L trains. I say bring the vintage trains back for good.

The picture didn't come up for a second, I thought there was gonna be a picture of a short yellow train full of passengers wearing hockey helmets after reading "special train"
