Is It A Shonda To Be A Non-Jew And Use JDate?

2004_12_datingjew.jpg

When the NY Times revealed that JDate is a an online-dating-destination for non-Jews in the Style section, Gothamist doubts that many people were surprised, thought it was nice as confirmation of our suspicions. For ages, people have been attracted to people of other races or religions, while some people marry within their race or religion. IT JUST DEPENDS. We really don't have that much to say on the matter, except that we love what the Jews have brought to our breakfast culture (bagels, lox, shmears - it's all good!) and these two phrases: "Donna Changstein" and "shiksappeal."

JDate, where the non-Jews try to use the Yiddish they pick up from the Coffee Talk with Linda Richman skit or Seinfeld. And for those dating a Jew, the book, What to Do When You Date a Jew.

FYI, the Yiddish word "shiksa" is rooted in a word meaning "blemish" or "abomination."

Really? Shiksa is a pretty satisfying word to say, still.

Oh, and you've gotten your html hrefs mixed up. The link for shiksappeal goes to Donna Changstein and vice versa.

Ascot's absolutely right. I never use the word "shaygetz" or "shiksa" for that reason. I believe it means a detestable crawling thing, and it's used in the context of what Jews can and can't eat. (Insert your own off-color joke here.) Nice, huh?

In case anyone's interested, I posted twice about this (yes, the lady has two blogs):

When the style section of the NY Times revealed JDate as an online dating destination for non-Jews, Gothamist doubted that many people were surprised. Though, it nicely served as confirmation of our suspicions.
