Gothamist: Why Buses Aren't Allowed On The FDR

Last Friday, 11/19, I was on a Greyhound bus from Boston that did the exact same thing (less damage), at the exact same place! We were headed southbound on the FDR Drive, and we got stuck around 8:30pm... I don't know if it made the news. Yes, FDR is marked "no commercial vehicles," and the 9'6" sign is pretty visible. One of the passengers was like "hey... what the ..." as we blew past.

Several years ago, a doubledecker tour bus slammed into a low train trestle in Bloomfield, NJ, ripping the top level of the bus back like a can of sardines. Passengers onboard the top level were decapitated. Yuck. That story horrified me when it happened. The people on board this bus are lucky to have survived.

I noticed the driver made a comment while interviewed via the news media. "I always take FDR, I drive truck on FDR". I thought the FDR Drive was a Parkway "No Commecial Vehicles"
