Tree Lighting Week Commences!

2004_11_treelightings.jpgIf Thanksgiving is over, then Christmas trees all around the city must be lit. Here are three events the Daily News notes:

- Tonight, the holiday tree at Lincoln Center will be lit. ABC 7's Sam Champion is hosting the event, which will feature high wire artist Pedro Carrillo, Sr., walking a tightrope across Lincoln Center's plaza and Mickey Mouse helping throw the switch to illuminate the 50 foot tree. Also, there are free saplings being handed out to the first 300 children who visit, starting at 5PM. The tree lighting ceremony is from 5:30-6:30PM.
- The classic NYC Christmas tree lighting is tomorrow night, with the festivities at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. Al Roker, NBC's weatherman, and Nancy O'Dell from Access Hollywood (meh) host this event, which features many celebrities: Nick & Jessica, Hillary Duff, Clay Aiken. It's a glorious event, but Gothamist warns that it is also incredibly crowded. Your best best might be to catch it on WNBC Channel 4 or find a friend with views overlooking Rockefeller Center. The Rockefeller Christmas Tree, which has a 71 foot tree, ceremonies start at 7PM.
- And for more local flavor, the Atlantic Avenue Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony is on Wednesday night, starting at 6PM. The tree is at Atlantic Avenue and Bond Street in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. As far as Gothamist can tell, there's no weatherperson involved. Choruses from PS 8 And PS 261 will sing carols, with refreshments from Atlantic Avenue restaurants. O Tannenbaum indeed!
