New York magazine completed its transition to something new and different last week (the something new and different includes new sections, new layouts, and a new, aspirational, sidewalk fresh scent), and topped it off by introducing a reworking of Milton Glaser's logo. manyhighways thought it looks more like "New Vork" than "New York." It's certainly more flourishy than before; Gothamist isn't that thrilled with the logo falling off the edges of the cover, but as we're not trained typographers, we'll shrug it off and just concentrate on wanting to know what restaurants are opening up so we can eat our hearts out.
Gawker looks at how New York is challenged with handling humor. Plus, the Observer wonders about the magazine's journalistic future. And did you know that Milton Glaser also designed the Brooklyn Brewery logo?

Augh, the line weighting on that logo is atrocious. The off-the-page bleeds are kind of cute but what if you have to repurpose the logo for other uses, like envelopes etc? Are you just going to cut the tips? Dumb. Bad design.
I'll disagree with Thor. I prefer the new version. I never liked the swishy Y in York, and I think overall it's bolder and more modern, while loyal to the classic. The off-the-page bleed on the cover is just one treatment - if you look inside the mag they use the full logo with no crop here and there.
