Finally, Gothamist gets to take our show to foreign lands: Welcome Londonist to the -ist fold!
Today marks the start of the public beta period of Londonist; this is when we try to work out kinks with formatting, get feedback from readers, etc., but as you can see, Londonist is already looking wonderful. Edited by Rob Hinchcliffe and Euan Mitchell, Londonist will bring our -isty purview on Blighty, from what is the best-loved view in the capital, looking at Philip Larkin's lawn mower (those Brits will call anything an exhibit!), and the mayor of London's effort to ban smoking in, well, all of London. Swinging London indeed! And finally, Gothamist has a transatlantic target for our European jokes (of course, we're here to be the brash, arrogant, ignorant Yanks).
And be sure to check out our other city sites: Chicagoist, DCist, LAist, and SFist.

Will you send roving reporters out there? Could you send me? I'll stay forever and do a great job.
i luv that the weather is in celsius.
Looks good.
Greetings from Singapore. How about a Singapore-ist? They speak Singlish over here, you know.
An -ist to remind me of home! BUT! Why haven't you got the gherkin building in the logo design?!
Hey Guy,
Actually we did put the gherkin in the original design for the logo, but rigorous market research revealed that it looked too 'phalic'.
Sorry.
Shouldn't it be at www.londonist.co.uk ?
I see there's a Torontoist in the works. The logo is there and everything. Hurry up already, I want my Toronto news.
About Bloody time you Yanks set up a Londonist. For god's sake, you made a Chicagoist before a Londonist?? a Bloody outrage it is!
May I be in charge of the Dental Hygiene Section?
I wont let you blokes down.
Phallic symbols attract more readers! You should've added it. With all the Dogging that goes around in Britain I think it would be welcome.
Isn't the Mayor of London just ceremonially in charge of the city of London which is just a tiny slice of what we consider London? It'd be like if Bloomberg was in charge of the original city of NY (Fort whatamacallit where the Statue of Liberty ferries leave from up to Wall Street). Kind of tiny.
Alison - I think you're thinkign of the Lord Mayor

As opposed to 'Red' Ken Livingstone who's the 'real' mayor

Nice masthead, but where oh where is the Gherkin? The new iconic buidling and recent winner of the RIBA Sterling award.I'd like to the Sarf' London columnist. Think of it as the view from the hill ;-). Is this a site for Londoners, or for Americans in London?
How can you ignore the Gherkin? Because its er.. too phallic seems a tad lame. Its like not including the Eiffel Tower from a Parisian skyline? Where was this research done, Bradford?
