In their worst effort of the season (a few unforced errors against New England were understandable), the Jets comitted seven penalties, two turnovers, and added a missed field goal in a 22-17 AFC East loss to the host Buffalo Bills. Willis McGahee was an effective warhorse for Buffalo, gaining 132 yards and a score on 37 carries.
Starting QB Chad Pennington did not return to action after the midway point of the fourth quarter, when he aggravated the right shoulder he had had bruised on a first quarter scramble that resulted in a fumble. Even though the game's outcome had not been completely decided at that point, coach Herm Edwards should be commended for his decision to not risk Pennington's shoulder (and likely the Jets' entire season) when the team has an experienced backup like Quincy Carter ready in the wing. That said, it was a sloppy handoff from Carter to Curtis Martin that resulted in a Buffalo safety late in the game.
On the bright side, receiver Santana Moss finally had a breakout game statistically for Gang Green, (six catches for 157 yards) including a 51-yard TD reception from Carter late. Offensive Coordinator Paul Hackett resumed his role as public enemy number one amongst Jets fans, at least according to those who host and call into talk radio on both WFAN and 1050 ESPN radio.
UPDATE: At his Monday afternoon press conference, Edwards announced Pennington will miss 2-4 weeks with a strained rotator cuff. Suddenly, the Jets' playoff hopes ride on backup Quincy Carter.

espn just reported that pennington will miss next week's game against the ravens.
I said this since Chad came into the game. The boy has a lot of natural talent, but his arm is weak. Until he spends the offseason lifting weights and building his arm strength he will be a third tier quarterback. It is just a matter of time before defensive backs and corners realize that each ball over 20 yards is going to be loften into the air. Soon they will turn and break earlier catch more interceptions.
I am a Jet fan, but I can't be happy with Chad this early in his career. He just needs more muscle.

Quincy Carter is going to rock the house - the Cowboys should have never let him go (Tin Man Testaverde as Exhibit A)
