We know what you're thinking...when do we get Montreal-ist and what can I do here while waiting for my visa to Canada? Well here's a list to tide you over, let's be happy in New York for now, shall we? For the most part we're surrounded by liberals so it's really just a tiny Blue island. Our own private Canada. Or something. So, on to the events:

For starters, the Gothamist Movable Hype show is coming up fast so you better get your ticket soon. You can find them here. We're sure that later this week Coolfer will be supplying you with some more shows coming up (including everyone's favorite Canadians, Arcade Fire, who play Bowery next week).
After purchasing this ticket you may feel your appetite creeping back up on you. Just in time to head over to one of the many restaurants participating in this years Downtown for Dinner. Over 50 downtown restaurants will be offering up prix fixe meals for only $20.04, from now until Sunday! You can find more info here.
Just want to stare at a screen for a while? We understand, and we give you options:
Ever wonder what it's like to be a Rockette? No? Well...one of the new ones has started a blog which documents her nervousness (opening night is tomorrow!) while she heads down her path to the very 'second from the left' spot she stands in now. Read all about it.
Lastly, but certainly the most important option of all, is THE OC SEASON PREMIERE TONIGHT. There is nothing that Seth Cohen can't make better. We've been in posession of a tape of the first 2 episodes of this season and haven't watched it yet (because who owns a VCR anymore?!) so we'll be watching this tonight (read: do not call us between the hours of 8 and 9.)
Still not satisfied? Fine, speed up the immigration process and find yourself a Canadian to marry.

As a northern new yorker by birth, I must say that Montreal-ist would be very cool even if it didn't look so tempting right now.
You liberals whine a big game, yet I fear none of you will actually leave. Pity.
how come none of you moved in the past four years? and please pack your bags and go whine elsewhere.
What's the matter, mmm? No fags to beat up this morning?
I am 100% for a northeast secession. No civil war, just a friendly, no frills secession. Everyone will be happy!
I actually take back my previous comment. Out of line and spoken from rage.
What I will instead advocate is giving a redstater a welcome and hearing equivalent to what a bluestater would receive in red territory.
Draw your own conclusions.
Oh, and as far as secession goes, if there were Federal troops in the five boros it would at least mean the Federal government was paying attention to us.
can't we just talk about the OC? i hear someone throws a chaise lounge in the pool. discuss...
Actually bluestaters get a lot nicer treatment in red states than redstaters get here. None of the angry sanctimony I see in Manhattan all the time. You liberal losers really helped us out at the RNC. Spitting on old ladies, hassling cops - that really went over well in Ohio. Thanks for your help and keep up the good work!
For all you moving to Canada, does anybody have an apartment they want to sublet on on the cheap??
Nola, you're full of crap. Go to Texas sometime. Even in new York City, you encounter the "enemy" all the time -- there are Republicans (of the northeast, more finances, less hatred stripe) all over the place. One could even note we have one as our Mayor. In backwoods Texas, Utah, and other Red places, though, Democrats are literally demonized, becase these people don't routinely meet liberals in person. What went over well in Ohio was pulling out the rural voters (rural Ohio is deep South in many ways) and getting them to show loud and proud how much they hate gays.
Thanks for the large dose of angry sanctimony. You prove my point by stereotyping people you know nothing about. I've lived in both red and blue states and anyone with experience will tell you that wearing a Kerry button in a red state is a lot more pleasant than wearing a Bush button in NY or LA. Nobody was promoting hate in Ohio or the deep south. All the hatred in this campaign came from you nutty moveon.org, Michael Moore, RNC-protest types. But again, I thank you for your efforts and look forward to taunting you for a good, long time.
It'a amusing the Nola get's all Sanctimonious, whilst being Sanctimonious himself (Herself? Honestly,Nola, I've no idea. Kindly corect me on that, if needed). Nola, you live here and IMO, are acting Mighty Rude.
Look all, The Republican Party is Nola's church, and GW Bush is Nola's Reverend-Most-High. Keep that in mind when you listen to Nola's Ranting.
Nola, I'll ask One Simple question and be done: How many Men, Woman and Children need die in Iraq before the "War on Terror" there is won?
As per a study by the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Columbia, and the Al-Mustansiriya University in Baghdad, they estimate that more than 100,000 people have dies since the US Invaded.
Even if you quarter that number, It's too high a price for me.
So do Gothamist contributers get comps for the Movable Hype show? ;)
Nola and mmm, We here in New York are too close to the terrorism and the homosexuals. Only people from the red states have enough distance to see things in their perspective. So on behalf of the blue states, we would like to thank the red states for saving us from ourselves.
Hey, Nola... try being called a "baby-killer" or "fag lover" sometime.
Actually, as I live in the middle of Nolita, if I ever decide that I need to beat up fags, I won't have to travel far. But I think they're swell folks.
And to throw in a little concurrence, I do live in Manhattan, but have spent a fair amount of time recently working in Tennessee. Everything that has been pointed out about the hostility of the supposedly-peace-loving New York liberals couldn't be more true. They're absolute scumbags.
And just how do they treat their Planned Parenthood volunteers in the Volunteer state, dude?
BTW, use of the word "scumbag" goes a long way down tolerance lane, o transplanted redstate friend.
Don't feed the trolls! They're not worth it.
But, I will contribute my two cents (I posted this at Low Culture as well): There's no reason for Republicans to gloat that the Democrats lost, given what Bush's re-election proves - that everyone who voted for him is a flabby-assed, Faux News watching, America-hating traitor (yes, you know it's true). You clearly don't care about this country or what it's doing to countries like Iraq if you continue to support Bush. Democrats would not criticize the war in Iraq or the country if we did not love the U.S. and expect better of it.
Anyway, on to the OC! I've only seen the first episode so maybe I need to watch another one to understand why everyone likes it so much.
My latest Seth Cohen slash fic is here.
