Am I Blue?

bluestater.jpgMost Gothamist readers (judging by county returns, about seventy-five percent) are probably feeling a little low this evening. With the wait for a resident visa to Canada running up to a year, some of you may be needing some interim relief. Gothamist is there for you, with our self-help remedy of choice: lots and lots of booze. Here's a good stiff drink we devised to get you through the next four years:

The Blue Stater
1 oz. Blue Curacao
1/2 oz. orange flavored vodka
1 oz. vanilla flavored vodka

Combine all ingredients and shake over ice. Pour into a martini glass and top with a dash of club soda. If you're in the mood for some bipartisan reconciliation, garnish with a maraschino cherry.

After many of you picked Kerry, how many of you voted for all five Democratic New York Supreme court justices? You didn't have to vote for all of them. If you did pick all five, congratulations--you endorsed this person with your vote:
Judge Jacqueline Silberman

Think about that while you sip your stiff drink.

Next election, please be an informed voter. This presidency was tilted to Bush because of millions of uninformed voters. We are not much better than those poorly-informed Ohioans if we blindly vote for people here in New York.

Let's make up for this next election. In the meantime, let's drink our sorrows away!

There is not enough alcohol in the world.

Which is not to say that I'm not doing my best. The people have spoken. I say in reply: pass the whiskey.

Gonna be a long, long 4 years.

That rocks! I personally downed about a pitcher of Oktoberfest at Hallo Berlin. First the World Series, and now this.

Worst. Autumn. Ever.

Speaking as a Canadian, please stay home. We have enough liberal yahoos in the country. Stay in New York please.

what if Bush brings back prohibition?
ho ho ho

I've got family in Canada with warm beds for all of us, and plenty of land. Someone's got to balance out the conservative nutcases they've got up there too, but if they're anything like ours down here, they won't listen to reason either.

Also, needs more vodka.

There's a drink like that called a "Cin Cin" at a 5 star little Italian restaurant in a place whose name I will not reveal.

Sure - Canada is SO much better. Wait forever to see a physician (and be part of an antiquated healthcare system), get taxed up to 50% of your income, freeze your ass off every winter - sounds like paradise to me! But then again, you get to walk around with a beautiful maple leaf flag patch on your backpack and mispronounce words like "boat".

Hey "the truth", uh, senior citizens dying while in line to get flu shots in the USA. Parents in BROOKLYN (USA) holding a block party to raise money for their baby's bone-marrow translplant b/c insurance won't pay for it. Yeah, we have a GREAT health care system here. OH, and hundreds of thousands of americans, with NO HEALTH COVERAGE at all who have no choice but to wait until they are really sick and then get treated in emergency rooms.

If you're sick of beind identified with the United States, but can't pull off moving to Canada, you can become a Virtual Canadian. See http://VirtualCanadian.org for more info.

Those who have no health insurance have no jobs and don't deserve free medicine. We don't live in socialism. I work, I get paid and I contribute to my healthcare. Simple equation. Is this that hard for you poor fucks to understand?

user-pic

thousands of working americans don't have health care. i can't tell if your ignorance is a joke or real. either way, it's kinda sad and certainly pathetic.

user-pic

Why don't they have healthcare? Because the companies they CHOOSE to work for don't provide it. Simple. I choose to work for a company with benefits; therefore I receive healthcare. Are you a complete idiot or just lazy? Obviously you're somewhat uneducated as is clear from your grammar.

user-pic

lol good luck CHOOSING to work ANYWHERE in this shitty economy. really...don't forget, the company you CHOOSE to work for, who provides you with such wonderful benefits, could turn around tomorrow and cut them in half, or eliminate them altogether. good luck with CHOOSING a new job every time a company does this to you; basic work benefits elimination has become a fancy corporate money-saving trend, happening all over the country. it's either healthcare or pension benefits, or something else entirely.

why is it always the people in delicately-built glass houses who throw the first stone...

user-pic

Well, it seems like you've been hurt before. Poor soul. If you had a decent profile you wouldn't need to worry as you would find a position elsewhere should your evil company let you go. You anti-corporate fucks are merely peons and need to actually work some and get a little educated so your fragile beings can feel more secure.

What's wrong with the judge (in comment #2) ?

She asked the city to present evidence to her. That's what judges do. Did you want her to proclaim "The city is inherently evil. Lynch all the cops" ?

Or did you maybe misread that article you linked, and say "OMG, WTF, the judge dismissed our case" ?

In which case you're not ill-informed, you're illiterate.

It's funny how red-state people despise paying taxes to provide all citizens with basic healthcare, yet they revel in using public funds to fight wars.
