Mayor B's Presidential Prediction

2004_11_bloombergpodium.jpg

While our former Mayor (you know, the one with grander political aspirations) is under fire for how close he is to the President, Gothamist must say our love of Mayor Bloomberg's wishy-washy-ness (not quite flip-floppiness) is at an all time high. Why? Because of what he told reporters when asked what he thought today's election results would bring: "I think it will be one of those two. I think Mr. Nader probably is not going to win. I'd be willing to make a small tasteful wager that he did not win." Oh, Mayor Bloomberg, way to not endorse either candidate, even after serving NYC on a silver platter to the RNC this summer. He also said, "Kerry will certainly carry the state and New York City, so there's not a lot I can do here one way or another." Heh.

Okay, let me get this straight.

Bloomberg made a mockery of the democratic process by firing three members of the Panel for Educational Policy solely because they disagreed with his views on social promotion.

Because of Bloomberg's actions regarding property tax codes, the rent boards had to raise annual rent increases at least twice in the past couple of years.

Under Bloomberg's watch, we've seen the city's Consumer Price Index rise noticeably higher.

Bloomberg proposed a unitary ballot for primaries, specifically designed to help the Republican party.

Bloomberg successfully turned NYC into a police state by using resources to ticket people for "quality of life" violations, such as taking up two seats on the subway, sitting on steps, fonts being too large on store signs, climbing trees in parks, feeding pigeons, "loitering" in front of your own home, using the wrong color garbage bag, etc.

Bloomberg banned smoking yet wrote exemptions specifically designed to allow the upper-class to smoke in certain conventions.

Bloomberg supported the illegal arrests of cyclists during the recent Critical Mass bike rides.

Bloomberg supported the NYPD's illegal search-and-arrest methods during the RNC.

Bloomberg proposed making extended dog barking illegal.

Because Bloomberg was too busy brown-nosing the Republican party, he didn't actively address the fact that the federal government has even come close to giving NYC all of our 9/11 rebuilding money.

Bloomberg personally donated a good amount of money to the RNC and supported George W. Bush, which needs no further explanation.

...And why does Gothamist like Bloomberg, despite all of this?

His "wishy-washy-ness"!!!
