Great! Just in time for Halloween, when folks are supposed to be spooked, and our Presidential elections, when folks will be thrown into self-induced hysteria, Osama bin Laden has released a new video tape. The AP's lede:
Osama bin Laden (news - web sites), reading a statement to the American people in a new videotape aired Friday, directly admitted for the first time that he ordered the Sept. 11 attacks and said "the best way to avoid another Manhattan" was to stop threatening Muslims' security.Damnit. We were hoping Bush would spring a "Surprise! We have bin Laden" in time for the election. Anyway, Gothamist must say, we are really loving how September 11 attacks are shorthanded as "Manhattan." If only bin Laden knew what hell would come if the Bronx or Brooklyn were attacked.

best way to "avoid another manhattan?" stop overdeveloping the real estate market and saturating it with trendy restaurants with vapid patrons...oh wait he meant 9/11...hmmm. lost in translation.
The "October Surprise" may just be trotted out Monday, which would officially make it the "November Surprise." Can't wait!

someone at work says to me today, talking in regards to another co-worker whos brother is station in Iraq, that there is a big push to get Osama this weekend in time for the election. Not a big surprise there if it is true...
"It never occurred to us that the commander in chief of the American forces (Bush) would leave 50,000 citizens in the two towers to face those horrors alone at a time when they most needed him because he thought listening to a child discussing her goat and its ramming . . ."
Reading this, I almost get the sense that Osama snuck into into a dark theatre to watch Farenheit 9 / 11 so he could find out what really happened on 9 / 11.
Speaking of movies, you all need to see "Hearts and Minds" which leaves the Film Forum on November 4th, if you haven't already. 1974 Academy Award Winner for Best Doc. It's about Vietnam, but of course, the parallels are incredible. And it's just so damn good. Seriously, and Word.
