Friday on the subway I met a guy who said he got mugged Tuesday on Houston and Avenue A. Which is scary for me because I live in that neighborhood. He said he was being buzzed into an apartment and the mugger followed him into the building and pulled a Glock on him in the hallway and said give me all your money. Yikes. He handed the mugger all his money. He didn't want his wallet or cards or anything. The guy told me he will always carry money on him from now on so as not to disappoint any muggers and face their wrath. Needless to say, I am walking around my neighborhood a lot more paranoid from now on.

Ahh, McGruff! As much an icon of my childhood as Bugs Bunny and Micky Dolenz.

I think I've posted this before, but there was a time when if you came into your office on Monday and said "I got mugged this weekend" you were greeted with a war story from each and every person you worked with. It was part of the thing... you lived in NYC long enough, you got robbed.
