Just In Time For Halloween: Mega Theater Costume Sale

2004_10_artscostumesale.jpgGothamist loves a good sale, so when we heard about the Theater Development Fund costume sale, our eyes got all big and buggy. TDF is the non-profit organization behind the TKTS booth, and they do many other great endeavors which promote theater and the arts. From Tuesday Oct. 26 through Thursday Oct. 28, they will be clearing out twenty thousand professional quality theatrical costumes during the TDF Costume Collection's “Moving Sale”. These are described as "one-of-a-kind costumes from all periods, as well as many accessories that were donated over the years from Broadway and Off Broadway productions, opera companies and individuals." The sale will be held on the 17th floor of 601 West 26th Street, the site of TDF’s Costume Collection, which rents costumes to not for profit organizations across the country at reduced prices.

The prices are really unbelivably cheap - on the first day, you can buy a shopping bags for $20 each, go through the warehouse, and fill it completely! On Day 2, the shopping bags will be $10 each. And if there are any costumes remaining by Thursday, October 28, the bags will be just one buck!

Expect huge lines and go early if you want to be the best dressed at the Halloween parade. Who knows what treasures might be found?

It's a fucking mess out there. I cabbed it with my boyfriend on our lunch break thinking the odds were fair that it wouldn't be too packed as it was at 11th ave. No dice. The lines are enormous and this certainly doesn't look like a lunch break undertaking. We had the cabbie bring us back to work. What a shame! Looks like the only ones who will be able to reap the benefits are the un-employed (thanks Bush!) and students.

There's a note on the website which says that they're only letting people oin who were issued tickets yesterday. It's now closed to the general public.
