Ding, Dong, The Bitch Is Fired

2004_10_apprenticestacyr.jpg

Now, with this season of The Apprentice may not have captured our heart the way the first season did, but Gothamist will admit tonight's dismissal of Stacy Rotner thrilled us. This Stacy, the Jewish, short, lawyer Stacy (vs. the black, tall, restaurateur Stacie) was not as "crazy" as Stacie J., but let's face it, she was more hideously conniving and annoying. We can't believe she stayed on for so long and must thank The Donald for taking care of business. Next request for the boot - Maria, please. The Television Without Pity forum on Stacy R. And she has her own website, where you can ask her to speak at functions about "Dating Lessons Learned from the Apprentice" and how "Feistiness Counts." Feistiness counts, but what about being a lame pain in the ass?

Related: A chat with Mayor Bloomberg was the prize for the winning team last night. Granted, Gothamist would love 15 minutes with the Mayor, but next to the prize of playing tennis with John McEnroe and Anna Kournikova, that seems...boring. It wasn't even a meal with the Mayor - just a quick talk at Gracie Mansion. The Mayor told a joke and none of the Apprentice wannabes got it - the man has no skills at comic delivery.

Little Stacy R was a troubled little troll. I wouldn't mind shagging her, she's a spinner, but I fancy that other little snot, the oriental broad with the nifty underwear.

Wow that was a pretty strong set of reactions for a simple question which was not meant in an accusatory tone or any kind of tone other than a simple why. Being a foreigner and not being totally clued in on the entrenched sterotypes it was a question merely out of curiosity.

Thanks for all the answers tho.

  • Short people never get taken seriously. Yes, she was argumentative -- and never accepted responsibility. But do we have to criticize her for being a "troll," a "shorty," "12?"

And what about the fact that Raj is a total chauvinist? I can't stand the way he demeans women with his James Bond attitude.

  • Enough with the ethnicity and the religion or whatever. Why hasn't anyone pointed out the weirdest thing about Stacy R: that she is apparently TWELVE YEARS OLD?

It's not just that she's two feet shorter than the others--her looks and whiny attitude always made it seem like they had suddenly cut to a scene from Full House whenever she appeared.

The first season of The Apprentice was great.

I've watched two episodes of this season's show and have seen commentary about the show on MSNBC and heard stuff on the radio about the episodes I didn't see and am not planning on watching the show anymore. I just feel that it's become a we know that you know that we know this IS ALL A MIRAGE AND NOTHING IS REAL. It just seems stupid to fake myself into a game of dissecting each contestant and then trying to guess who will be fired. Hey, I didn't dissect anything in high school or college. I delegated that crappy job out and was the one who typed the results up that were handed in since I was so good at that and it didn't MAKE ME NAUSEOUS LIKE THIS SHOW MAKES ME.

The only person that was reinforcing a stereotype was Stacy.

If we were talking Asian stereotypes here this board would have been censored completely.

I don't care what Stacy R's ethnic/racial/religious background is, she's a troll and I'm glad that she's gone. She should have been kicked to the curb (she wouldn't have that far to go!) a long time ago.

I knew her self-rightous, "always blame others for her mistakes" a** was going to get the axe!

Get over it. This country is too fucking politically correct. Bring back the 70s.

Jen, I'm just not with you on your use of "Jewish" as an ethnic identifier. When you use the label "Jewish" along with the labels "short," "hiddeously conniving" and "annoying," I don't see how that's really defensible.

Yes, you did ID other people's ethnicities, but didn't link them to the types of negative qualities often cited by racists or anti-Semites.

And Jake, I don't think Stacy played the ethnic card first, unless you define calling someone out on their anti-Semitism "playing the ethnic card." If a white person uses the N-word to describe two old black women and a black person overhears it and calls him on it, is the black person playing the race card?

Jen, I know you didn't mean anything by this, but I think it put something out there that reinforces a horribly negative stereotype. If you had a feeling you would get flak for it, that was probably a sign to figure out another way to get your meaning across.

  • So, she's wearing like the most busted suit ever on front page of her website. Get a tailor, shorty. What's with the thigh bulge. Also, that photo gallery? I just barfed in my mouth.

  • even her website makes her look short. they could have made the "r" a tad smaller - at least so she could be taller than it.

  • zey

Jen: you totally hit it on the mark. I did a post about this as well. She was constantly blaming other people for her own mistakes and faults. Before the task of doggy-washing even started, Stacy complained that she wasn't a "dog person" and it was obvious she wasn't trying to help her team win. I'm kinda torn as to who I want voted off next. It's a toss-up between the Harvard boy and Maria.

This is total internet pedantry, but 'the Jewish...' and 'the black...' is just plain awkward. The following isn't good (punctuation be damned!), but I think people might find less exception to it.

'This Stacy, the short, Jewish lawyer (vs. Stacie, the tall, black restauranteur)"

The original way puts an unnecessary focus on 'Jewish' and 'black'. And no, I'm not offended by any of this shit.

  • i think the jewish reference is appropriate, given the events in the restaurant episode. stacy played the ethnic card first- and she's giving my people a bad name!

  • Yeah, the TWOP link has a double quote and is busting LJ pretty badly.

Could someone explain the appeal of The Apprentice to those of us who don't get it, such as myself? If I wanted to see people making up ice cream flavors, I'll go to Coldstone. If I want to see prototype toys, I'll go to the Toy Expo. If I wanted to watch people hawking crap on QVC, I'd...watch QVC. So what's the big draw?

  • You may have noted that Ivana was Asian, but not in the context of how horrible she is.

  • Herself

Please fix the HTML on the RSS feed for this item--it's making the livejournal pages of many people unreadable with a vertical scroll bar.

    Thanks.

  • Jen

I wondered if I'd get flak for this, but, yes, I was using Jewish as an ethnic identifier for Stacy - I called out that Stacie J. was black and earlier, noted Ivana was Asian. And as it is proven on The Apprentice, you don't have to be a certain ethnicity to be horrible - you just are. Just think Katrina, Amy, Heidi and Nick on the last season - BLECH.

  • SteveO

Because that was her annoying character, they annoying little jewish girl. Jewish as the ethnicity, not the religion. Damn, I hate people so defensive in denial about who they are. She's the stereotype of the annoying jappy girl. It exists, accept it. She's why us Jewish guys don't ever date jewish girls.

  • Aparna

Why is her religion relevant? You didn't say 'christian' Stacie J so why say 'jewish' Stacy R?
