First The Nets, Now The Kennedys?

Brooklyn is buzzing over rumors that Caroline Kennedy, husband Edwin Schlossberg, and their kids are moving to Park Slope from the Upper East Side. While there's "no comment" from the family, Brooklyn's biggest booster, Borough President Marty Markowitz, had some:
Brooklyn, home to everyone from everywhere, is proud to be the new home of the Kennedys. Park Slope: It ain't Cape Cod, but it's starting to look a lot like Camelot.
Park Slope residents are used to seeing the famous in their neighborhood, as the Slope is home to a few celebs, like Steve Buscemi, Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany, Paul Auster (a book celeb, but if you're a New Yorker, he counts), and John Turturro. Newsday spoke to one Park Sloper who said, "My kids see John Turturro all the time, and they say that nobody bothers him." It's true - people just go home and bother their family and friends about seeing John Turturro as the Cinematheque or Steve Buscemi at Smiling Pizza. And Caroline Kennedy, while certainly famous in a big way, is such a low-key figure (she was ridiculed by fashionista for wearing the same pants suit three time in the past week) that she'll blend in just fine. Gothamist's one Caroline Kennedy experience is limited to seeing her get on the crosstown 79th Street bus with her son, but knowing she's pro-public transportation is enough.

If Caroline Kennedy moves to Park Slope, what does that do to the neighborhood? Do you think she'd join the Food Co-Op? Here's the Corcoran guide to Park Slope (a Corcoran broker called "Prospect Park West" Brooklyn's "Central Park West"). NY Magazine's Park Slope profile.

  • gothamist! get with the program! rory kennedy already lives in park slope (on montgomery place, to be exact, the block that new york magazine yearly describes as the loveliest block in brooklyn). and this new yorker recently saw rory (with baby in a stroller) strolling down her street with friend, actress kathryn erbe (also a park slope res. and also pushing a stroller).

and ps--schumer lives on PPW, not the same block as turturro, i believe

I think the most underrated highlight of the future Brooklyn, at least as of right now...is the Brooklyn Public Library's Visual & Performing Arts Library.

It can raise real estate values of everything in the area, even on fourth ave.

I've only seen Buscemi at Belleville (on more than one occasion). C'mon, he's not wasting time over at Smiling.

  • Let's hope she doesn't take a cue from Mr. Buscemi. Smiling Pizza!? Gag me.

  • Don't forget about our esteemed senator, Chuck Schumer. He lives on the same block as Turturro.

  • I'll take the Kennedy's over the Nets any day.

  • Wow -- lots of possibilities with this. Consciousness raising of the need for better maintenance of the *eastern* side of Prospect Park? An end to the Ann Coulter books at the Barnes & Noble? Or maybe said books will get relegated to the humor section, where they put Al Franken?
