After the break, during the first song someone tried to rush but security got him. Moz touched his hand and said nice try. Then, almost immediately, somone else rushed the stage, stood near Moz with his hands in the air to show he wasn't going to hurt Moz, and security quickly threw him back into the crowd. Then, mid-song, Moz just put the microphone back in the holder and walked off the stage. Poof, the concert was over... Very short show. He came on about 9:15 and was done by 10:30'ish. People were booing up a storm.
We were pretty far in the back, so we didn't get a good look at what happened. We figure either Morrissey stormed off because he felt like security was abusing his fans, or he stormed off because he felt like security wasn't keeping his insane fans from attacking him during the show. Which was it?

This is nothing compared to the infamous Fiona Apple meltdown a couple years ago at the Roseland - the sound wasn't working very weel, and she left 9 minutes after starting. Luckily, I had 4 apple martinis at the Russian Vodka Room, scalped my tickets right before the concert, then went to Cafeteria to throw up for an hour.
I don't know if Morrissey's changed his timeframe since the '90s but usually 45 minutes for him was par for the course.
ok, I was right up at the front - Morrissey got really pissed with security, who were manhandling this poor girl, trying to rip her arm out of her socket. he looked at her and said "thanks for trying," cursed at the 600-pounds of security, and walked off. a bad ending to a good show.
i had such a good time and then security and a bad tempered Morrissey ended the music on this note.
i'd assume he left because he was mad at the security. i recall hearing about a show he did in the midwest a few years ago wherein he started a small riot because he was urging fans to jump on stage and hug him.
The circumstances may be different, but Morrissey cut short a show I attended back in 1990 or 1991 in L.A. Three songs into his set, he made the mistake of "inviting" fans to join him onstage, leading hundreds of people to frantically, dangerously rush the stage. Lights up. Show over.
I was at the Oct. 9th show and Moz seemed pretty unimpressed with the compassion that the Radio City bulldogs were showing towards his fans. He often took verbal jabs at the Radio City overlords for their unwarranted rigidity towards the adoring minions who had flocked to see this living symbol of hopeless mope.
Nevertheless, nevertheless... He played a full set on Saturday but to me it seemed painfully short anyway.
And so I ask myself: Is it really this security issue that bothers me or the larger, more fearsome question, a question we are faced with everyday, of whether this may be the last time we'll see the king again in the flesh?
Nah, none of his shows ever go longer than 75 minutes. You may have missed 1-2 more minutes of Moz...
i sent the email cited in the write-up. while this may be typical length for a moz show, i don't think it's typical for him to leave mid-song, is it? great show, disappointing ending. i would love to see him again, but i don't think i would shell out a ton of cash. i'm not really into performers coming on well over an hour late and then leaving in an hour. but, when he was on, he was incredible. net-net, mixed bag.
no surprise there. he did the same in Vancouver a few years back. he finished w/ the Smiths song "Shoplifters of the World". we were all pissed cuz we thought it was cuz of all the people rushing the stage, but it turns out the official set list finished w/ the aforementioned song. from this i can only assume that it was all planned from the start. Moz is very smart; leave 'em wanting more and creating a scene/spectacular exit. gotta love him for that. :)
He did the same thing at the Greek Theater near U.C. Berkeley when I was a kid. He got miffed because the crowd was singing along and "ruining the mood." He simply walked off the stage after 3 or 4 songs. I agree, par for the course.
Aaaaaaand did the same thing at Garden State Arts in the early '90s. A kid ran up onstage, Morrissey retreated, end of show. Elapsed time: 30 minutes. Bullshit.

I was at that show too. Moz was playing this past week right around the corner at the Paramount in Asbury Park. Wanted to go, but decided I'm just too old and cranky to pay that much money for a potentially half-hour concert again. No way.
