Funny to read this now--I'm home with the flu. Too late for this particular strain (or can you get the same strain twice? I can never get that straight.) Wish I'd had a flu shot.

Same thing happened last year--got the flu right before the shots were available. In a couple weeks I had pneumonia. I'm a relatively fit person in my 30s--not on the list of people that should get vaccinated, but, damn, maybe I should!

Wait - I thought the pharma industry was bad! Now you're in need of one of their products? How insane is that!

My org cancelled the whole Flu shot program. Wasn't going to get one anyway, 'cause it's just plain silly when you're not in the risk group. But now it's downright immoral.

some companies are aware of the problem and are curbing their flu vaccine service. our company (huge Fortune 100 in midtown) just released this notice today:

"As you may be aware, significant developments regarding influenza vaccination in the past week cast doubt on widespread availability of vaccine for the upcoming flu season. The estimated shortfall of vaccine is estimated to be close to 50 million doses. Unfortunately, this means that ___________ probably will not be able obtain a significant supply of vaccine."

it went on to list the priorities for vaccination, which certain of our employees do qualify for (presumably, any vaccine the company obtains will be prioritized for those people). perhaps this will help encourage the wall street firm to re-examine their vaccination plan.

I tend to get flu shots, but then I get sick, which is not the worst. My issue is that when I do get the flu, I'm weeping because I'm so miserable.

Maybe the correspondent's firm will just administer half-doses of vaccine? There's talk of doing that to stretch supplies.

So children aged 624 months is actually a geezer at 51. That is a good time for the second childhood and senility to set in.
