A great day of college football, including a number of top 25 match-ups, caused some real movement in our poll this week (last week). Look for another great Saturday of college football action this week as Oklahoma meets Texas and Cal travels to USC.
1. Oklahoma – Can Stoops continue his magic against Texas? Sooners have been so dominant in this rivalry that we have to keep picking them until Texas proves they can get over the hump.
2. Georgia – Now THAT was the Georgia team we were expecting to see this year.
We were confident they’d beat LSU, but not annihilate them. Can they do it 2 weeks in a row as Tennessee visits this Saturday? Yes!
3. Auburn – Best thing about having your own rankings is that you can move teams up and down on a whim, and nobody can stop you! Blowing out Tennessee in Knoxville after beating LSU earlier in the season deserves some props. Running game and defense are a given, if QB Jason Campbell can keep throwing like he did against the Vols, this team could go all the way.
4. Miami – Didn’t do anything wrong with solid win at Georgia Tech, but UGA and AUB had statement wins. Brock Berlin was better but still only a 50% passer.
5. Southern Cal – Wow, USC at number five? Well, beat Cal this week and then we’ll talk. Should be a great matchup with two great offensive minds in Norm Chow and Jeff Tedford. Cal can score but winning in the Coliseum is awfully tough.
6. Texas – Time to put up or shut-up vs. Oklahoma. Must run the ball well to win.
7. California – Destroyed a decent Oregon State team. Now the big showdown in SoCal vs. the Trojans. Talented enough to pull off the upset, but the revenge factor and home crowd for USC will make it very tough.
8. Purdue – Any team that goes into South Bend and bitch-slaps the Irish is a favorite of ours! QB Kyle Orton: 17 TDs, 0 Int so far this year. Enough said.
9. Virginia – Still haven’t played anyone, so it’s hard to say if this ranking is legit or not.
10. Minnesota – Came out flat vs. Penn State, no doubt looking ahead to showdown with Michigan this Saturday. Gophers put 424 rushing yards up vs. Wolverines last year, but it may be difficult to get half that many this year on the road.
11. Arizona State – Oregon may be down, but winning at the Autzen zoo at night is still very impressive.
12. Wisconsin – A different team with a healthy Anthony Davis. Heads to the Horseshoe to take on the suddenly vulnerable Bucks this week…Badgers have a great chance to win if they can avoid turnovers and special teams mistakes. Weak OSU offense needs help from those units to score points, especially against the strong Wisconsin “D”.
13. Utah – Keeps on rolling...unlike Fresno State, can they keep their focus and continue to beat lesser teams?
14. Florida State – Guess we have to put them somewhere. Probably better off with Chris Rix injured.
15. Boise State – Deserve mention for solid season so far. Gothamist dislikes the blue turf though!
Knocking on the door: Florida, Louisville, Michigan, Oklahoma State.

What a ridiculous poll. You're drowning in East Coast bias. USC is number 1.
east coast bias? where? and the person that did the poll doesn't even live on the east coast.
EC bias or not, this is still nuts. Beating UTEP must really count for something this year otherwise it's hard to figure having AZST and BSU this high this early. Given the "rankings" of these two, I'm surprised Navy isn't in the top 10 here. But they haven't played UTEP yet, so maybe that explains it.
And Oregon State and decent in the same sentence? They're 1-4. I guess beating New Mexico must really count for something. Somewhere.
Honestly, I feel that the top 6 teams are very close, so don't read too much into USC being at number 5. I'm definitely a fan of what Pete Carroll is doing out west.
As for Ariz. St, they destroyed a decent Iowa team, and regardless of Oregon's record, winning there is not easy. Are Ariz. St. and Boise St. too high? Maybe, but there are not a ton of great teams behind them. It's still early in the season, things will shake themselves out as we go. Also, having those two teams plus Cal ranked so highly should help counter the east coast bias claims.
As you can see, I try to be different with my rankings; it wouldn't do anyone any good if I just cut and pasted the AP poll. I do watch virtually every game that is on free TV, and rank them according to my gut. I definitely encourage disagreement - that's what makes college football polls so much fun! Thanks for reading!
