Get Organized New York Tag Sale

AS announced earlier this summer, Real Simple magazine is organizing a huge tag sale in a week and a half with proceeds going to NYC public schools. It's Get Organized New York, which will be held in Central Park on October 16 and 17. All items - from clothing to electronics, from sporting goods to "treasures" - are supposed to be new or nearly new, and Gothamist loves this idea, because we know there are a fair number of rich people who just buy buy buy and never use stuff; we just hope they are donating (we'll be donating some random stuff distant relatives gave us - distant enough not to feel bad and distant enough to realize they don't know us at all). And if you work in the Time Inc. Building at Sixth Avenue and 50th Street and have seen people hauling stuff that refuses to stay in the Yaffa crates, it's because the Real Simple publisher is a permanent donation site; there are also pick-up days in other boroughs as well as mobile donation sites. More info on where to donate here.

And two reasons why keeping things "simple" at home is a good idea: Patrice Moore's apartment and the legendary Collyer Brothers.
