MTA Wants To Expand, Even With No Money

The MTA revealed its expansion plans amidst questions to how the plan will actually be funded. The new plans include the Second Avenue Subway, new LIRR service to Grand Central, and new LIRR service to Lower Manhattan, which would need $4 billion inititally. This would be exciting, but Gothamist agrees with the Chicken Littles - we worry that service get worse if money isn't put into maintaining and improving the current stations. We're not happy about a fare hike, but we understand it if it's going to services we're using already. Sigh, thinking about the MTA's budget problems makes us crazy. And Govenor Pataki's people only say that he is reviewing plans. Bah! Do something, man.
