Mets to Have Crowded Front Office

If you can't get it right with two people making decisions, it's a great idea to add a third. Well, at least that's what the Mets are doing. The team is to announce today that Omar Minaya will be the new head of baseball operations, a position above that of General Manager Jim Duquette. With Minaya, Duquette, and COO Jeff Wilpon all leading the Mets, the question is, "who's in charge?" With Minaya's title, we'll assume it's him, but Wilpon previously said that baseball decisions would be in Duquette's hands. The hiring of Minaya clearly changes that. Hopefully, three heads are better than two and better than one, because the Mets need some help.

And in a move to please the crowds in Atlanta, the Mets dropped another game to the Braves. The 6-3 loss gave Bobby Cox his 2000th career win. He is the 9th manager to reach that mark and joins Tony LaRussa as the only other active manager on the list. The Mets lost two of the three games in the series and return home to face the Expos.

Kris Benson is scheduled to start Friday, followed by Al Leiter and Tom Glavine on Saturday and Sunday. There's nothing quite like the two worst teams in the NL East battling it out on the final weekend of the season.

Duquette needs to walk. Omar will be the GM, one way or another. Who wants to have this happen to them after only one year? The ownership of the Mets are part of the reason they made some "bad" deals over the last couple years, not this GM. Unfortunate.

It's Minaya, not Minyana. He's clearly off to great start, media-wise.
