Autumn Moon Festival

In our hustle and bustle, we forgot that it's Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. This is an Asian holiday, but anyone can join in the reindeer games by looking at the moon, which is a Harvest Moon - the biggest of the year.

For moon fun: NASA. And for Chinese delicacies, go to Chinatown or Flushing. And Gothamist had to rerun this photo from last year's post. We think this pig mooncake is still in our fridge.

  • It's a Japanese holiday too! Just last night friends of mine here in Kyoto took a trip to a local shrine, but the moon was obscured by clouds. Damn typhoon hit a little early and blocked out the view. We still managed to have sweets and green tea though, so not all was lost.

  • Taste of Chinatown, on Saturday, October 2nd, 2004 from 1:00PM to 6:00 PM. One dollar ($1.00) buys you a taste at each of the thirty plus restaurants, bakeries and tea houses

I love mooncakes, but I've never seen one like that. Arenn't they supposed to be shaped...like moons?

    It *is* very cute.
