Gothamist's Div. 1A Top 15

Justin S. brings us his 3rd weekly ranking of the NCAA Division 1A teams. No movement in the top 5 from last week's rankings.

1. Oklahoma – Oregon isn’t great this year, but that’s still a quality win.

2. Miami

3 . Southern Cal – A young team that will improve as the season progresses. Pac 10 is weak, and getting Cal at home sure helps.

4. Georgia – How can a team with so much talent play so poorly again? Unless they show major improvement, they will lose at least 2 games.

5. Texas – They will stay here for a couple more weeks, then lose to Oklahoma as usual!

6. West Virginia – Finally conquered their Terrapin demons. Like Southern Cal, should be favored in every game they play – just have to take care of business.

7. California

8. Auburn – Gothamist told you that they would defeat LSU! Our correspondent at the game, “Adder”, reports it was the loudest he’s ever heard Jordan-Hare Stadium.

9. Ohio State – An impressive road win. Michigan fans - @ NC State is the type of game UM would have lost. OSU only had 140 yards of offense but found a way to win with defense and special teams. NC State turnovers sure helped too.

10. Tennessee – Took some luck, but found a way to beat a good Florida team. We don’t know how far you can go with 2 freshman QBs, but so far so good. Still, expect a 3 loss season or so.

11. Minnesota – A truly dominant running game – a rarity in college football today. Definitely a contender for the Big Ten title, but can they stop anyone?

12. Fresno State – Had to drop a little bit after lackluster win over Portland State. Bulldogs have proven that they can beat the good teams on their schedule...question is, can they maintain their focus and beat the weaker teams week in and week out?

13. Virginia – Look great, but haven’t played anyone yet.

14. Utah

15 . Purdue

Knocking on the door: Florida State, Boise State, LSU, Florida.
