Move Over Freeman

With a 34-28 win over the hapless San Diego Chargers yesterday, the Jets did exactly what they were expected to do, but they also completed at least one important part of their checklist heading into the only bye week of their season - they successfully held on.

With another 100-plus yard outing (32 carries for 119 yards and 2 touchdowns on the game's first two possessions) Curtis Martin surpassed Freeman McNeil the franchise's all-time rushing leader, finishing the day with 8,185 yards during his seven-year career in green (11,984 overall).

It was a decent all-around effort for the Jets offense and defense. San Diego's LaDanian Tomlinson (19 carries, 87 yards) was relatively contained and only looked like his usual self on a 59-yard reception weave.

An 87-yard kickoff return touchdown by the Chargers' dimunitive dynamo Tim Dwight may suggest that Gang Green's special teams may still need some work.

Chad Pennington finished with another solid performance, 22-29 for 258 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions.

After an awful start and a slight redemption in the second-half, Charger QB Drew Brees was pulled from the game due to a concussion (apparently the reason why after the game, he would wince while getting patted on the head by opponents). Brees' injury was unbeknownst to the television broadcasters during the Chargers' final offensive drive of the evening. Thinking he was simply being benched due to a poor performance that was as much the fault of his receivers as his own, the CBS analyst asked, "What kind of message does this send?".
