With the election just over 42 days away, President Bush and Senator John Kerry make their way to NYC today, for fundraisers and a piece of the media spotlight. Bush has fundraiser tonight at the Sheraton at 53rd and 7th Avenue tonight and will speaking at the UN General Assembly tomorrow; Kerry is speaking at NYU and has a fundraiser at the Hilton on 6th Avenue and 53rd Street after an appearance on Late Show with David Letterman. Note to self: Getting around near 53rd Street tonight will be a dream. Mayor Bloomberg notes, "We've got a hundred, roughly, heads of state in the city, plus Bush and Kerry. They all have security details. They're all coming and going. Mass transit is probably a good idea for this next week." Gothamist's heart goes out to people working Midtown West and East (especially as the UN opens its new session today). And if you hear Kerry speak at NYU, let us know!
Check out the NY Times' Elizabeth Bumiller's political memo about the differences between Bush and Kerry's speaking styles.

""We've got a hundred, roughly, heads of state in the city, plus Bush and Kerry."
So the mayor doesn't recognize Bush as a head of state?
Just Grreaaaat... More Nightmare traffic.
I live in the Farthest depths of Queens (I could throw a rock into Long Island's Nassau County...) and need to drive in on the one or two nights that I work past 8pm.
These two will screw up more traffic than the entire week of the RNC!
This should be fun, since I work in the CL Building, which is essentially between the Hilton and Sheraton on 6th between 52nd and 53rd.
i was just down by NYU this morning- lines around the block, and then on the way back at noon, dozens of black pathfinders. government has turned in to such a sallow spectacle!
