Mets on the Right Trach

Okay, we admit that we hate it as much as anyone when the Mets bust out the "On the right Trach" stuff at Shea, but when they're right, they're right. The Mets won their first series since August against the Rockies. Steve Trachsel pitched six strong, giving up only two earned runs as well as two unearned in the 9-4 loss (box score).

The Mets hitters were also "on the right Trach", scoring seven runs in the first inning. With the Mets battering Braves starter Jose Capellan during the first, there was almost no need to play the rest of the game. The first inning run-fest included a three run home run from Richard Hidalgo and a 420 ft solo shot from Todd Zeile.

In player news for the Mets, mid-season acquisition, Richard Hidalgo may not be with the Mets next season. There is a team option on 2005 for $15 million, which doesn't look too attractive, so the Mets may buy out the final year for a cool $2 million and try to re-sign him. Or not. With the Mets, Hidalgo has hit a measly .244. Tonight's opener in Pittsburgh will be caught by Todd Zeile, who last caught in 1990 while still with the Cardinals. Zeile has been catching Tom Glavine, tonight's starter, in the bullpen and has longed to catch again, especially since he is retiring after the season. Rookie shortstop, Kaz Matsui has said that he would like to play second base if he returns to action this season. The change in position could lead to a reversal in positions of Matsui and Jose Reyes next season.
