Coolfer's Music Picks
The Thrills have a great new album, Let's Bottle Bohemia (I hear a bit more pop and less California country), and are stopping by Irving Plaza tonight. The much-buzzed-about and Mercury Prize-nominated band The Zutons are opening the show. If your wallet is a little light these days, don't fret. The Thrills are playing at Tower Records at 4th and Broadway tonight at 6pm.
On Saturday, New York Dolls frontman David Johansen will perform at the Collge of Staten Island's Center for the Arts. The website says David "brings his unique and dynamic classic rock show home for one night only!" Warming up for that cross-country Dolls tour maybe?
If that's not your cup of tea, perhaps you'd like to travel out to Jones Beach for the year's dream double-bill, Kenny G and Michael Bolton? Tickets are a mere $35 to $75, service fees not included. If you go, let us know how it was.
On Tuesday, local band Inouk will play at Tonic. Their new album, No Danger, is a gorgeous stunner. Coolfer and Gothamist are big fans of this band. The Village Voice had a great description of the band's sound: "Indie rock that’s complex yet groovin’ and free-floatin'." That's a good fit. For those of you tired of bands copying the New York sound of bands who are copying the New York sound of the early '80s, Inouk will be very refreshing. On!Air!Library! is also on the bill, so you've got two reasons to be there.
For you NME readers, you have probably read the praise (hype, whatever) lavished upon Razorlight. Next big thing? Hard to say, but NYC is filled with people who pride themselves on being able to see such a band in a small club before they become big names. So, you may want to go to Sin-e at 8pm on Tuesday to see what the hype is all about. Yes, it's an early show, perfect if you also want to catch Inouk at Tonic.

Ive got somthing worthy of your website, wich by the way has a great section for new york music fans. There is a guy on Staten Island who has been putting together the greatest underground shows in the five boroughs. These shows are getting real big and the underground buzz is intense.. Hes an up and coming name due to these shows he puts together. This guy took a few different styles of music hardcore, hip-hop, rock etc and put the best local talents together for one crazy action packed night of talent. His shows are jam packed and growing, and alot of us hold him responsible for saving the underground music scene in the smaller boroughs of new york. The shows have even attracted some stars such as memebers of the bands biohazard and neck.I Just thought after seeing him in the local papers you might be interested in listing his shows on your site.. Please consider this recomendation and contact him through his website as I dont know him personally. www.mattsoneproductions.com . Keep up the good work guys and thanks for your time
