Big Robot In Times Square

According to kottke.org, there's a 40-foot robot in Times Square (that's his cameraphone shot at left). He's correct in guessing that it's a promotion for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (the movie that was shot in green screen and digitally manipulated so the stars look fuzzy the way Cybill Shephard did in Moonlighting); here are WireImage pictures of Gwyneth Paltrow and Good Morning America's Diane Sawyer in Times Square.

There have been smaller robots (Robosapiens) on street corners as well. However, this Sky Captain promotion pales in comparison to panda invasion of February.

Yeah, what allison said. LIES! I had to go down and see actual tourists for a few minutes - for nothing. Germans with long black socks, shorts, and sandals. Not fun!

They had these up facing the convention hall where the San Diego Comic-Con was held in July. The best part was walking by one of them, yelling "klaatu verata nikto" at it as a joke, and the eye-light went off!

Holy JEEEEEZ! Gwynnie looks more radiant than ever! Mommyhood is good to her!

The monster was last seen headed north toward Hokkaido.

are you sure about that?
getting interested in watching the movie
in first place, is the movie good??

It's better than anything George Lucas has done since Star Wars -- at least in terms of acting and story -- but I guess that's not saying much.

Gwynnie and Jude have good chemistry and they do a bit to warm up the cold and murky set pieces which are quite illogically lit.

The toys, gadgets, ships, planes and 'bots are interesting to look at but you do feel the story is subject to the the director's desire to create certain virtual backlots just for kicks.

For some reason the sound editors chose to boost the sound effects on Gwynnie's charm bracelet so everytime she moves her arm it's like someone's tap dancing on your head.

I wouldn't want to see it again but I didn't walk out -- Jude's too freakin cute.
