Does anyone know what the little floaty shiny things were in the "Tribute in Light" on Saturday night? I didn't get much closer than TriBeCa, so I couldn't tell. They looked too large to be insects, too numerous to be birds ... but it seemed like it would be an insane amount of pollution if they were some mass of intentionallly released confetti-things. ???

I have happy memories of my visit to the WTC and the lift ride to the gallery on May 2nd, 2000. The roof was closed that day and I thought to myself, well i can always come back :-(. The picture of the propoed development is a truly beautiful one. This time the site is dedicated to people as well as commerce in a way that they could never have envisaged in the early 70's. a planned trip to NYC early next year will be a painful one, but long looked forward to. Thank you Gothamist for this piece.

That is some view of the future Ground Zero.
In today's Daily News, there was an item on how no one has started raising the "hundreds of millions" of dollars for a memorial. I thought Larry Silverstein was including this in the rebuilding grants he's receiving. If regular people have to foot more of a bill for a memorial, this could become a major story.
