Jen W, I know a lot of people who feel the same way you do. I think, though, for many, there is a need to talk about it, because that's how people confront an issue and try to figure out how they feel about it (sort of like therapy). My good friends who lived down there and saw the buildings fall don't really care for September 11 remembrances either, and I think the memory lives in the hearts of many people everyday anyway. But I was very moved by seeing the parents and grandparents read the names of the victims and families lay flowers at Ground Zero - it made me very grateful for the things I have. I don't like the jingoism related to the event, but on the human healing side of things, I think remembering is important, and it's just that it's still pretty raw and the country is in the middle of things that are directly September 11 related that it seems like flagellation (especially with tabloid papers' coverage). Hopefully that'll change and it can be more personalized and intimate.

I'm not doing anything special. To me it seems morbid to feel forced to flagellate about 9/11 every year. I saw (and smelled and heard) it the first time, I don't need consistent reminding. I can't be the only one with 9/11 fatigue.

I am pretty sure they did some testing on Staten Island earlier in the week but haven't been able to find any news coverage, even though I saw a NY1 camera crew. The NY Times article linked has mention that they will go up tomorrow at dusk.

Lana,

Based on what I've read the lights will be on for one night only. So start scouting a location for those pictures.

What will people be doing tommorow??

After the events of 9/11, (This might be Sappy to some) I personally take that day off to think about my life, the people in it and the people now missing from it.

Does anyone know when the Tribute in Light will be up this year? The obvious answer is "tomrorrow, stupid" but curiously, it's not listed on the group's website as taking place this year, nor is it mentioned on their recorded message detailing their various exhibits around town. I'd definitely like to try to get some photos this year if it will really be going on.

If you have time, a fast modem, it's really interesting to listen to the Opie and Anthony radio shows from that week.

They are all online at
