Jets Pass Final Preseason Exam

After learning he had lost the Jets’ backup quarterback job to exiled Cowboy Quincy Carter virtually overnight, Brooks Bollinger responded the only way he could, rallying the team to a come-from-behind 28-27 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in the exhibition finale for both teams on Friday night.

Although it was really just a battle of third-stringers, Bollinger, who suffered a minor knee injury in the team’s first preseason game looked like Joe Montana in leading the team to three touchdowns in the final 5:17 of play.

Among those not surviving the final cut to a 53-man roster over the weekend were QB Ricky Ray and defensive end Matt Walters.

Arguably, the team’s biggest news this week came when starting QB Chad Pennington agreed to terms on a seven-year $64 million contract extension ($23 Million guaranteed).

In theory, Pennington would still be in Green if and when the Jets make their desired move to a proposed stadium on the West Side of Manhattan.

Stay tuned for Gothamist’s Jets season preview later this week, as the team prepares for Sunday’s regular season opener at home against Cincinnati.
