While First Lady Hangs Uptown, Holly Hunter Steps Into Her Shoes Downtown

We were stoked to read in Playbill that Academy Award-winning actress Holly Hunter (Thirteen, The Piano, Broadcast News) is playing first lady Laura Bush opposite Cynthia Nixon and Lisa Kron in a staged reading this week of Tony Kushner's Only We Who Guard the Mystery Shall Be Unhappy at the New York Theater Workshop, on a double bill with an encore presentation of Mark Crispin Miller’s Patriot Act: a Public Meditation .

Co-starring with Hunter will be Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City, Tanner on Tanner, Little Manhattan) as the Angel, and Lisa Kron (Well and 2.5 Minute Ride) reading stage directions. The performance schedule is: Monday, August 30, Tuesday, August 31, and Wednesday, September 1, all at 7:00pm.

The performances are free, and are part of the Imagine festival of cool arts and cultural events going on all week in New York as counter relief to the convention. Full info how to get tickets can be found at www.nytw.org. Gothamist is excited at this A+ cast and pedigree. We love free theatre events - it makes us happy to be here, even in this weather and with all chaos ensuing this week. New York Theatre Workshop's theatre down on 4th Street is reasonably sized, though not huge, so check out the specifics on the ticketing but plan to err on the side of caution by going early.
