I suggest giving it another try. I live in Louisiana and have tasted the original.....it blows Popeyes out of the water. May I suggest a trip down south for the original. Not sure if the New York location has the deep fried Po' Boy but if so I would ditch Atkins and kill my arteries with one of these.

P.S. I am a little biased because my brother in law is good friends with Jacques

Where did the buzz about the chicken come from? I have friends who have been going to J-I for years and the only dish they ever felt was unmissable was the alligator cheesecake.

I've been wondering about Jacques-Imo, as it's fairly near my house...good to know that I should head to a Popeye's...

I actually hadn't seen GIT's post on Jacques (or NYCEat's mention), but it appears we have the same taste. Now that I have read it, they do seem similar. I'm happy to admit she scooped me on the Popeye's connection.

I guess you also read www.gitnyc.blogspot.com? She ran a very similar post recently that was mentioned on www.nyceats.com as well. Seems a little wacky to write without mentioning gitnyc, but that's your choice...
