Just what NYC hasn't been waiting for: The AWOL USA Alcohol Without Liquid machine, that turns whiskey or vodka into a breathable mist. Yeah, Gothamist has no idea why, since most people have got mouths. Apparently, the machine gives breathers a "euphoric high" rather than a massive buzz (or hangover), and will debut tonight in the Meatpacking District at Trust Lounge. But one NYU med school professor thinks it's problematic since people will not realize how drunk they are, and lawmakers think the alcohol mist machine will be what all the kids wants, with Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano telling reporters, "It's portable, and it will wind up at parties with kids...We don't want it in Westchester, and, in fact, we don't want it in the state." Did we mention this is from Britain, where boozing is taken to a high art? For shame! Ten years ago, you gave us barely sober Oasis...now this?
The photo is from the AWOL website, and to paraphrase Tony Soprano, we thought, that's kinda gay, no? Anyway, Gothamist braces ourselves for the advent of commercialized glue sniffing, scented fart machines, and intravenous alcohol use.

Totally assinine! And doesn't it look like an opium pipe?!
It could attract smokers back into the bars, however... seeing how drinking and inhaling are so emotionally interwined... now smokers can once again experience the euphora of inhaling coupled with the effects of alcohol again!
Just wonderful. Just what the world needs, an alternative to actually drinking alcohol. Those bottles and glasses can get so heavy Rose, you hit it on the head, with the fact that it looks like an opium pipe. I'm sure it will be popular with the kids.
I cant wait to try it. especially since its supposedly hangover-free. the older I get the more painful the hangovers are.
I was looking for some aksheeun
But all I found were cigarettes and alcohol
You might as well do the white line...

Wow. IMO: That's just Stupid. Can we say Alcohol poisoning?? Looks like they took a nebulizer normally used for asthma and made it into a "Delivery" System for Booze.
I just had a Thought: Since it Vaporizes the Alcohol, Does this make these potential Flame Throwers?? I can see someome doing this next to a Candle...
The AWOL machine costs nearly $4000. It's usually only available in bars, which are 21-and-over to enter. How do kids factor into this again, Andrew Spano?
'Cause Kids Under 21 never go to a Bar *AND* bars always get Proof of Id...
;)
Do you have to look like those guys to use that thing?
Twenty teenagers ponying up $200 each would be pretty easy to do in Westchester. Hold a party, sell "shots" for five bucks apiece, and they would recoup their initial outlay pretty quickly.
it takes 20min to get a shot's worth of alcohol into your system.... this strikes me as incredibly inefficient.
Not that I'm a health nut, but I would be wary of any mechanism that allows alcohol to hit the bloodstream (and, subsequently, brain) without getting passed through the liver, an organ that has a pretty important role in filtering toxins out from the body.
what a bunch of sissies
hmmm... i hope they at least have disposable mouth piece things?
Alcohol can only be properly consumed through drinking. I'm old school like that.
Great solution to smoker problem perhaps. Smokers could just inhale their smoke and not impose the cigarette smoke on non-smokers.
you must be able to make such a device pretty cheap...

We are reviewing this machine in my class in school to learn group writing, agendas, minutes and so forth. I would like to see my group try and sell this machine, due to the fact, all other groups are giving up on it. I also think this will limit the underage drinkers as well. My one question is even if you're sitting around in a bar won't people still do shots while huffing on some inverted looking bong? I do live in Madison and there is still smoking in these bars-does this machine do the double dosage of smoke inhalation?
