Cobble Hill - Getting Some Class

Cooking and baking are certainly among Gothamist's many skills. But even the most adept culinary master could use some pointers now and then. So, it was with great enthusiasm that we learned that the Cobble Hill neighborhood in Brooklyn will soon be home to a new, aptly-named cooking school: The Neighborhood Kitchen.

knives.jpgGothamist is drawn to the outfit's recreational Knife Skills seminars. (Deftness with a cleaver and carving knife are most definitely mandatory requirements for survival in the five boroughs.) The school is also offering classes for the kids, if you're hoping that your wee one could become the next Daniel Boulud or Martha Stewart. (OK - Scratch that last idea.)

Pre-register for a class before September 1, when the school officially opens its doors, and the Neighborhood Kitchen is offering a $50 discount per class. Good eats and a steep discount? Sounds like a good neighbor to us!

After one visit pre-opening, including a view of the fabulous new facilities and a leisurely chat with the impressive chef/hostess, our family signed up on the spot for one course (to start). The place is family-friendly yet highly professional in standards, which is just what we want. And its diversified offerings, including catering and neighborhood service, make it a resource to return to oftener than we expected.
