While most New Yorkers know and love the Union Square Greenmarket, which has been a downtown fixture for the past 34 years, not everyone knows that there are plenty of other Greenmarkets throughout the five boroughs of New York. Some are open year-round, while others close for the winter.
Gothamist recently got a chance to visit the Borough Hall Greenmarket which is in downtown Brooklyn, right by the courthouse. For residents of Brooklyn Heights, Fort Greene/Clinton Hill, and Caroll Gardens/Cobble Hill, this is a great place to get fresh, local produce, flowers, baked goods, and now even seafood.
While Union Square is large enough to support a seafood vendor, that's not always the case at the smaller markets. So Gothamist was pleased to find that the Borough Hall location has been successful enough that they now offer seafood on Saturdays, courtesy of P.E. and D.D. Seafood of Riverhead, Long Island.

Fort Greene has its own, and very lovely, farmers' market every Saturday. Very good quality produce. Clinton Hill also has a CSA (community supported agriculture), so it's getting much easier to get good produce in these neighborhoods.
