Who Will Save Metropolis?

If you're wondering who's going to star in the next Superman movie, you're not alone. Then again, it's entirely possible you didn't know or don't care. Superman, who? The casting for the lead role in the movie has gone down the crapper. The list of leading men has run the gammut, from Nick Cage, to Jason Behr, to Henry Cavill.

It turns out that Warner Brothers even posted a listing on Craigslist for the role. It seems like all the listings have been deleted, but the Post has the details from Craigslist, "Late 20s, tall (must be at least 6 feet), handsome, chiseled, good looks, athletic, strong character, all-American, confident yet awkward." I guess Gothamist won't be in the running for Superman (we're not tall enough, but we've got plenty of awkward).

A casting agent for the movie said that there would also be auditions in New York, Chicago, Dallas, LA, and Vancouver. Who do you think should be the next Superman?

Who the hell wants another Superman movie? They'll never be able to replace Christopher Reeve. I'd like a Wonder Woman movie.

  • I was kidding about the Lockhart Steele thing.

  • Get the guy who played Joe Millionaire - Evan something. If he can convince women he's rich, he should be able to pretend to be a Superhero. He's already got the secret identity thing down.

They could always do it "Roger Rabbit" style with Superman animated and everybody else live. Maybe even get Jerry Seinfeld to play Jimmy Olson.

It's the curse of Superman... no one wants to touch it!

Jake Gyllenhaal or John Corbett (with fitness training).

"Why not just use the guy from the tv show?"

Maybe because he's a shitty actor with no charisma or screen presence. Though the ladies seem to like him quite a bit. Actually, I heard that Bryan Singer did in fact want Tom Welling for the role. Personally, I can barely endure watching him for free; no way will I be paying to see him in a Superman movie. I'd even take Affleck over him! Well, OK, judging from Daredevil, maybe not, but at least Ben has got some goofy charm at times.

  • the gothamist will save metropolis! read as cnn.com picks up on our favorite site: CNN story way to go!

  • Ben Affleck would make a kick-ass Superman. =)

Why not just use the guy from the tv show?

  • For many, Christopher Reeve will always be Superman. So rather than go with the same premise, why not make it a comedey such as Superman: The Later Years. It could star Bruce Willis in the title role or maybe Jim Carey.

  • Lockhart Steele. Simply on the strength of this anagram: "O, Clark the Steel"

  • I'm more the Batman type, myself, but I may have spider senses.

    Ashton Kutcher??? Ugh.

  • MoeGolden

I may regret this, but they may want to consider a pro athlete - Tom Brady seems to have what people like (Bush used him during the State of the Union).

  • i feel like kutcher would have to do some serious working out.

  • Moe Golden

Brendan Fraser and Ashton Kutcher would both seem acceptable.
