real people treat others. why didnt someone just pick up the check? there's nothing worse than a bunch of people who become accountants when the check hits the table.

I hate it when this happens. I am a (very) poor new yorker, who wants to be able to go out to dinner with friends, but cant afford the "extras" like appetizers or drinks oftentimes. But then I have to worry about looking like the stingy one when I refuse to split the bill evenly. I have to be stingy, otherwise I have to skip out on going out with friends altogether. But I still feel bad and cheap when it happens.

I'm firmly in the split down the middle persuasion, but only if you're good friends. If you all dine together at least 1-2 times a month, it'll all come out in the wash. (Disclaimer: if one of you never drinks or has a perpetually tiny appetite, this won't work)
