2nd Annual HOWL! Festival

Artwork by Jim Jarmusch, Nan Goldin, Anton Van Dalen and others up for bid; screenings and performances in community gardens; Charlie Parker tribute jazz festival; hip hop arts; readings; live music; parties; theatre; burlesque; art shows; films; Rooftop Rants; Beat poetry; Latino music and dance; Hebrew trivia; performance art; semi-nude live models in Tompkins Square Park; a Vomitorium; Wigstock with Boy George and RuPaul; and, of course, all things Allen Ginsberg.

There are so many activities and events at this year's East Village Howl! Festival - over 400 at 60 venues - if Gothamist were to describe them all, we'd be here all day. Counterculture isn't just for adults: take the little ones to Howl! Jr. in the Tompkins Square Park basketball courts for kid-friendly live music, performances, arts and crafts, the ever-popular face painting, playing dress-up and Swedish marionettes.

The Howl! Festival kicks off today, August 17 and continues through August 24. Howl! Jr. runs Saturday and Sunday, August 21-22.
