Both the US men's and women's eights advanced to the Rowing finals when they won their heats in world record times. The men finished in 5:19.85 and the women in 5:56.55. All races are over a 2000 meter course.

In the heat, the men defeated the Canadian team, which is the defending two-time world champion. The men have not won in Olympic men's eights since 1964. By winning their races, both teams avoid going to the repechages to compete for a spot in Sunday's finals.

Row2K compiled Q & A with of the US Olympic Rowers.
