"No" More Toys at Toys "R" Us

Toys

Citing growing competition in the toy business, Toys "R" Us announced yesterday that they might stop selling...toys!! That means no more Geoffrey Giraffe or Toys "R" Us in Times Square.

Analysts report that much of their business comes during the holiday season (does it really take analysts to realize that?), so the announcement was not a final decision, but a potential shift in their business.

If Toys "R" Us stops selling toys, what will become of their jingle which we found on In the 80s.

I don't want to grow up, I'm a Toys' R Us kid, there's a million toys at Toys 'R Us that I can play with! More bikes, more trains, more video games, it's the biggest toy store there is! I don't want to grow, because then if I did, I wouldn't be a Toys 'R Us kid!"

Sure, Toys "R" Us in Times Square might be a tourist trap, but Gothamist still wants to go. It's got a Ferris Wheel inside for Pete's sake! That's like having a roller coaster in a mall. For now, we'll just live through Rachelle's photos.

While you did mention that one TRU jingle, you neglected to mention this one, which practically attained the status of a beloved Christmas carol in our home in the 70s:

(sound of sleighbells)
The worlds biggest toy store is Toys R Us
The [biggest adventure] Toys R Us
Bicycles and tricycles that you can trust
The world's biggest toy store is Toys R Us
It's the Toys R Us time of year
Toys R Us

Brackets indicate words I'm not sure about. Also, it takes on a more holy tone if you add the words "God bless" before the final "Toys R Us."
That's the way we sang it, anyway.

This is shocking news indeed!!!

my heart bleeds when i think of all those out-of-work toy analysts. now, if only they can get that times square store cleared out in time to house some of the RNC ...

You forgot the all-important "Gee whiz!" after "it's the biggest toy store there is." It ties the whole thing together.

Heh, I was searching for the lyrics to the toys r us jingle, and it brought me here. Just wanted to mention that there's a 'Times Square' building/mall in KL Malaysia, and it _DOES_ have a rollercoaster inside it. How kewl is that? ;)
