Looking for Two Teef in Queens

2004_08_teeth.jpg

It seems like the Mets can't catch a break. Yesterday afternoon, Tom Glavine was involved in a car accident when he was in a cab on the way to Shea Stadium. Glavine returned from Atlanta, caught a cab at LaGuardia, and lost two front teeth when the taxi was involved in an accident with an SUV. Gothamist just took a look at Mapquest, and the trip is only 3.18 miles. What are the chances that someone gets in an accident during that trip?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released its updated report of SUV rollover safety and the Ford Explorer is at the bottom again; you can see SUV safety at safecar.gov. And WebMD notes that if your tooth gets knocked out, you should put it in milk, but after two hours, the tooth cannot be saved. Plus that Christmas chesnut, All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth.

The missing element to this story is that he probably was not wearing a seatbelt.

Before he gets implants, someone should make one of those taxi back seat recordings with him -- maybe we'd hear a whistle through the toothless gap?

Slim chance that they'd bring back those recordings, but it would be better than the one made by Yo Yo Ma.

Your chances of getting into an accident in NY increase with time, not necessarily with mileage. Going 3.18 miles in NY can take 45 minutes sometimes.

Considering he was near the Grand Central Parkway, the chances are pretty likely anyway. The GCP is usually a mess, and people are always driving erratically around there.

he was actually on an overpass as he was leaving the airport, so he was actually closer to LGA than to shea.

and the trip to shea from LGA is no more than 10 minutes - even in rush hour traffic.

mets team & personnel continue to be cursed

they teased us about competing before the all-star break & now the fat lady is already singing

Nice magazine. I learned about it reading amNY this morning! Good article on McGreevy, however, like Sen. Thomas Duane I believe there is more to this story than meets the eye. McGreevy is running from something.
