Is Controversy a Brewin'?

Kaz Matsui out? Naturally you start Jose Reyes...but what does this mean for the Mets next year? Yes, Gothamist is already thinking about next year for the Mets. Sure, they have won two in a row, but they beat the lowly Brewers. Since the Mets and the Brewers have the same record, one can only conclude the Mets are a lowly team as well. Hmm...we're rambling.

The Mets are 8 games out of first and 8.5 games out of last. They are slightly closer to the wild card than they are to first place. With the trades the Mets made last week, there is still some hope for improvement, but we're wondering if there are any Met fans out there that aren't thinking of next year already.

Jose Reyes at shortstop was a flashback to last season, but was it a preview of things to come? Kaz Matsui has struggled at short, committing the most errors at his position. The rest of the Mets haven't exactly picked up the slack. Matsui has 22 errors, most in the majors, and the Mets have the most errors in the National League. Team officials say that Matsui is the shortstop for this season, but who knows what will happen next season. Mets manager, Art Howe, will have Reyes play when Matsui needs rest.

The Mets defeated the Brewers 6-5 (box score) after Mike Cameron woke the offense up with a solo home run in the 5th inning. Two innings later, the Mets brought home five runs in the 7th to take a 6-3 lead. Steve Trachsel didn't get a decision in his 5 1/3 innings and gave up 3 runs, eight hits, and 5 walks in his appearance.
