Oh, my God, this looks so amazing. I think I'd get caught up in one of the earlier steps and just eat tomatoes and cheese.

As for photos at Fairway, that's interesting to know. I'll see what happens if I take my camera out. I've taken pictures in the front produce part (inside) without a problem. I try to document the horror of weekend Fairway traffic - and also the old men and ladies who push their carts into people.

A permit for pics on a market... Huh?? Do you need a written permission to break wind in the States these days?

Actually I was accosted in a supermarket here in Saigon last week for photographing fish sauce bottles. I think they thought I looked like an insurgent.

pieman, good idea. i actually tried to do that from fairway for my first lobster column, and was told by the manager that i needed some type of written permit to take pictures in fairway. i gave up at that point, but will think about doing it again if buying at other markets.

as for the scallops, fairway currently has 'dry wild' scallops which i think are pretty nice. citarella (UWS location) and agata (UES)frequently sell them in the shell, which is a real treat.

Likewise - enjoying this new section of Gothamist immensely.

You mention buying th divers scallops. Any chance of you blogging from the market you might buy such stuff in NYC?

Mmm. Hungry now. This has to be my favorite new section on Gothamist.

Marco & Pepe in Jersey City (yes, believe it or not, there is good food in Jersey) used to serve a really nice stacked tomato salad with chorizo, shrimp, fresh corn and a little balsamic reduction. It's a great variation if anyone's interested in trying it.
