I think a bunch of kids from my alma mater (and gothamist's!) would make an annual trek to the ghost station on the 1/9 line. There's some interesting graffitti to be found there, too...

i've been taking pictures in the subway (here and in boston) for years. i love the imagery you can get down there. i've only just started using the pics on my band's flyers [http://www.chthonicstreams.com/080304.jpg]. bravo to SL and LTV for showing the beauty in these forgotten places. you make me feel like putting up a photo section on my website. now everyone please stop sniping at each other like children.

As per usual, some folks, like the gothamist, seem to get our sense of humor. If only everyone in this town was as sharp (or at least had the you know what's to leave a name & email with their posts). (What? No mention of the new site skin mocking Con Ed and their ever exploding manholes? At this rate, Con Ed should just call themselves a pyrotechnics firm... but that's a whole other story.) My guess is they are they are in the 63rd-Lex unused level/side since they have rails in them. I don't think the other already-built part of the 2nd Ave subway had rails in it, let alone be a place where trains could lay-up.

LTV might be slightly exaggerating their importance. Who really sees droves of trendy yuppies climing down underground to explore subway tunnels? It's not that trendy. Urban exploration will always be underground (sorry for the pun).

Anybody have any guesses where these tracks are? Are they part of the unused tracks from the Manhattan Bridge? (The south tracks used to connect with the M line and the north used to run to Broadway.) Or are the tracks that hook into the express tracks on the Second Avenue stop on the F line?
