Who're You Calling Jerk?

When Gothamist is working late, we order dinner to the office. This could lead to a lot of Chinese food and sushi - which isn't all bad, but gets tired after a while. That's why every now and then we put in a call to Caribbean Spice, for a little something different to liven up a long, dull work week.

bammie.jpgConsider, for example, bammie. This pan-fried cake of cassava flour (known to us mainlanders as tapioca), dusted with a bit of pimento (allspice to you and me) is a welcome starchy alternative to steamed white rice. And Jamaican jerk and curry offers an unusual change of pace from the mainstream Midtown takeout mix. Gothamist heartily recommends the jerk chicken wings, the oxtail stew, and of course, the bammie.

I never told anyone about that restaurant because it's too small to fit all the customers they deserve.
