Nets Try To Pick Up The Pieces

The New Jersey Nets, still recovering from the KMart trade, are trying to salvage next season before it begins through trades and free agent acquisitions.

Kerry Kittles continues to lead the trade talk. Current deals being thrown about include Kittles to the LA Clippers for young PF Chris Wilcox and a deal with Cleveland that would nab the Nets Newark native Eric Williams as well as Dajaun Wagner. Since Williams is a free agent, any trade with the Cavs that includes him would have to be a sign and trade.

Also, yesterday the Nets signed 2002 first round pick Nenad Kristic and are close to landing free agent swingman Rodney Buford. The New York Post is reporting that due to Kristic's large buyout from his former team in Yugoslavia, he will essentially be paying to play for the Nets this year.

"The time is right to come to the NBA. I played three years in the Euro League, it's the best competition in Europe. I think I am ready," said Kristic. "I'm very happy to be here to play with this team."

Kristic has shown the potential to be a solid contributor in the future, but his learning curve next year figures to be steep. The best piece of advice Gothamist can give him is to keep his hands up at all times because if you're open, Jason Kidd will get it to you.
