Climate Control / Power of Ten

Through this Friday, July 30, Henry Urbach Architecture gallery presents fraternal-twin exhibitions moistscape and Ten Spaces, bundled together for their shared theme of architectural space and its relationship to material and scale.

moistscape is a modular environment designed by Brooklyn-based architecture studio, Freecell.

Hybridizing the natural and the synthetic, the three-dimensional living installation combines modern materials and equipment with moss and water, maintaining a constant temperature and humidity level.

Freecell principal John Hartmann is the recipient of this year's Rome Prize in architecture.

Ten Spaces features images by esteemed architectural photographer Ezra Stoller.

The display includes some of Stoller's most iconic images, as well as some never before exhibited. The focus of the exhibit is his interest in and ability to suppress the material and the tectonic architectural qualities in his photographs in favor of the spatial quality and its relationship to surfaces.

An architecture student during the 1930s, Stoller began photographing buildings, quickly developing a reputation as one of the world's best.

Henry Urbach Architecture is located at 526 West 26th Street (10th Floor) in Chelsea. The gallery is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10:00am to 6:00pm.
