Post-Party Blues

2004_07_askmargarita.jpgThis morning, we found an article on MSN for ways to get over a hangover. They suggest you:

+ Drink lots of water
+ Restore salt and potassium (via some Gatorade and/or a banana)
+ Fill up on fruit juice
+ Take vitamin B and C supplements
+ Caffeinate
+ Eat

We already knew that a pot of coffee can do wonders the morning after some raucous festivities, but the scientific reason behind that is that alcohol causes your blood vessels to swell (which makes your head throb) and coffee counteracts that. Also interestingly, the morning after greasy breakfast should be causing you to feel worse, even though our stomachs usually lead us to the local diner for a plate of bacon and eggs to get over our hangovers.

  • Soy milk always helps my body recover.

Actually, the best thing I've ever used for a hangover has been rehydration salts--those packets that are usually used for "emergencies" when travelling in developing countries. They work miracles. Best ever. I haven't been able to find any in NYC, unfortunately, and my supply is now gone.
