Outdoor Art Brightens Up NYC

If you have been near Lincoln Center lately (specifically, since July 7th) you may have noticed some large Dr. Suess-esque sculpture art. This is part of the Public Art Funds first major U.S. survey of outdoor art. The sculptures themselves are by Franz West. His 7 recently commissioned sculptures (titled: Franz West: Recent Sculptures) coincides with Summer at Lincoln Center which offers a vast schedule of music, dance, theater, opera, multi-media, free events, and programming from around the world through its Midsummer Night Swing, Lincoln Center Festival, Mostly Mozart, and Lincoln Center Out of Doors summer series.

Franz West said of the idea, “I like art in the streets. It doesn’t demand that you make a special journey to see it, it’s simply there.”
Gothamist agrees, we like to see art off the wall and on the streets, we also like that West himself suggests us all to go use these sculptures...as a place to eat our lunch, or simply to climb upon to make our day a bit more whimsical.

So get over there before August 31st to enjoy the colorful landscape that has been temporarily installed outside of Lincoln Center.
